At Monroe Free Methodist Church, we are being saved by the grace of God (I Corinthians 1:18), being transformed by the Holy Spirit in prayer (Romans 8:26), and emulating Jesus Christ by meeting the needs of others (I Corinthians 11:1).
How would we describe our services?
Our services are intentionally liturgical, following the Revised Common Lectionary and the Church Calendar for the flow of our service planning. Musically, we find value and truth in a variety of styles including hymns and modern songs, and we allow the Spirit to direct to us to select songs which will emphasize the scriptural focus of the week as well as minister to the people who will fill the pews. Our congregation has developed a desire to receive the song choices with open hands, where we recognize that the corporate element of worship and the message of the songs are more important than our personal tastes. It’s incredibly freeing to not be divided by music styles.
We place equal emphasis on scripture, song, giving, and sermon. Currently we partake in Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month and everyone is invited to partake, even if you’re not a member. Each week around 80 people fill our pews. There is a beautiful variety of people including young adults, families with babies and young kids, middle aged families with teenagers, empty nester/retirees and the elderly. It’s a perfect mix, we think. We could go on and on about all that God has done in transforming us together into a community of hospitality and a people desiring deep spiritual growth. Pastor Kevin and Pastor Melanie Eccles say, “We love that He’s called us to make this our home and our ministry.”
