Bible quizzing is a team-based knowledge competition over Scripture for students in 6th-12th grade. Teams of three from Free Methodist churches across America compete against one another first in local quizzes (our monthly quizzes compete against churches across Michigan), then in regional quizzes (including Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and occasionally farther), then finally at Nationals each summer at a Free Methodist College.

What are the rules?
The full rules are a bit long, but here’s the basics:
- Each team of three is read the same question by the judge, called the quizmaster.
- When you know the answer you jump up, and the electronic seats record who jumped first.
- If the question isn’t done yet, you have to finish the question.
- If the question is finished, you get to answer.
- Each question is worth 20 points, each round is 15 questions.
- The team with the most points wins!
What do we study?
Each year, the quizzing director chooses our material. In the 2017-2018 competition year, we’re studying the book of Ruth and Luke 1:1-11:28. You must study the 2011 New International Version or you will be studying the wrong material! Each month we’ll study a few chapters and then have competition over them. The first month, you only have a few chapters to worry about, but the material gets added to throughout the year. By the end of the year, you’ll be hearing questions over all of the material!
When do we do this?
The first quiz of the year is in October, and the last quiz is in April. There is usually at least one regional quiz in May, and Nationals in June or July. All of these are single-day competitions, except Nationals, which is week-long competition at a Free Methodist College or University. So your Quizzing schedule looks like:
- Studying on your own 15-30 minutes a day
- Weekly practice (about an hour a week)
- Monthly Quizzes (One Saturday a month, leaving early morning and home for dinner)
- National Competition (optional) for a week in July.
What does it cost?
Quiz portions cost about $2 (this is the scripture you’ll be studying, and it fits in your pocket). There’s a small registration fee for the competitions you attend, usually you have to buy lunch while at competition (cheap meal at the host church or fast food out). For nationals, it varies each year based on travel expenses, registration costs, and room and board for the week. It can be anywhere from $400-$1000.
